Sorry about the awful drawings!!

Very rushed plans of ARIEL and what's to go on each side..

Stephs finds!

Steph, Iz and myself met up yesterday and bought paint, poly filler, trays etc etc and figured out what else needs doing..

Me and Iz went to Battersea car boot this morning and got some fairy lights and some switches - the guy who was going to bring stuff for us was a bit of a let down!

Steph has been out buying stuff we spoke about yesterday - these with lights behind..

Technical Requirements

Sorry I'm only just putting this up, but notes from the meeting..

me again, got blog-i-tus !

I was thinking for the dead plants taking over maybe we could get some fake ivy I know where to get it cheaply and we could spray it with dirty down maybe??? just an idea it could look rubbish I haven't tested it out but I thought it might save us getting dead plants and we could control how dead they look and they're a very creeping/taking-over kinda plant.

Also I've been collecting stuff for buttons and I found that the lids of little paints look good and empty plastic packaging looks good sprayed white/silver would look like raised panels from the wall. In the mix is also paracetamol packaging (looks like buttons) erm and the long things are those clip-it things from ikea.. (how good would a LED inside that clear button look!)

fake wood

hi !

so this is the wood vinyl, the top one is probably better colour-wise. 1 roll had approx 2metres on and was £1.50. They look really nice when first put down but these examples have been stuck badly on bumpy surfaces

extra

Blinds would definitely be £46.
probably too expensive but something to bear in mind.

I really like the idea of keeping some of the supercomputer panels simple. best not to over do it. I really like the second image down- the stripes under the tv screen look great- maybe something to think about as reference for under the 3 screens on the left as you walk in the room.

More refs for ARIEL

Felix sent me this site - strange layout but GREAT pictures!
http://sophia.javeriana.edu.co/~ochavarr/computer_graphics_history/historia/

It would be good to recreate this sort of thing - thinner piece of MDF stuck onto the flats with mini screws in the corners.. print outs that we can mount onto card and age abit, sprayed bottle tops/nobs - anything we can get free stuck on - it's do-able..

Some of the panels could be quite bare nearer the bottom if we can make it look like this below (bottom right of image)

COLOUR SCHEME

Me and Emma have been looking at the colour scheme today to try and make some decisions!! We looked through all our reference pictures for the office and supercomputer and decided on a relatively bright but neutral colour scheme for the office space that could have accent colours and then a light blue/green (similar to all the control room pictures and machines) with a darker version of a similar colour and a grey for the supercomputer.
We then looked at one of the original references for the colour scheme which was the Tintin books at realised that what we had was pretty similar. WIN.
All the colours we have chosen are from the b and q COLOURS range as it is probably the cheapest and nicest paint we can afford.

So here's what we are thinking...

OFFICE:
buttermilk (yellow/cream colour)
warm beige (slightly brown/toffee colour)
accent colours (that come in through the objects in the room)
- the blue in the picture for the fabric for the seating
- orange in the tintin ref that comes in through the boxes we bought for the shelves (see previous post)

ARIEL SUPERCOMPUTER:

duck egg (light blue/green)
dapple blue (grey blue)
grey slate

Killing our Deptford finds..

Soooooo in order to get the most out of what we have - I think we should kill them all - This is what it started out like....

(Inside)

And this is what I got out of it...
We could put our own 'amp meters' etc (aged printouts) in the gaps/windows below with acetate in front of them...
I'm thinking make a black box and stick all this inside it, cover it in perspex/plastic and set it into the panels as if it's part of the control/servers inards...?? thoughts?? adds abit of depth and takes up space etc..
If we go with this in some parts, we should get some of the free TVs from freecycle/gumtree and get all the parts/backs of them etc...

Deptford finds!

Me and Iz got some stuff from Deptford market today.. We are going to take them apart and see how many of the sides and backs we can use as well as the fronts, and to try and make them lighter (some are beasts). Also we won't be able to buy enough stuff to cover all the panels so need to think about making some things which should be quite fun(!?) aha.
- Print out dial faces - make them a bit discoloured and put behind acetate set back abit etc etc - and make fake panels to stick onto the flats - this will be easier as we won't have to cut out as many holes to set objects into!
EVERYONE COLLECT BOTTLE TOPS that we can spray and use as dials/buttons - collect as many as possible!!
Thanks!

current props that we can re-use

There are various things already in the space that we could potentially use in our installation. These lights are good- sorry for the rubbbish pictures. The light shades are white- there are 3 of them. The space will look so different I think it would be possible to use them again and they would fit nicely in both the office and computer space.

Miranda will need a mirror within her space in the super computer- this one is above the bar in the space at the moment which is a potential one to use.

Sorry the picture is so dark- this is the intercom that is currently in the space- we can definitely use this as RETZ have said there would be one of these intercoms in every room of the island. Good buttons/computery stuff.

super computer panels

Other possibilities:

metal for the supercomputer panels (it's pretty expensive for larger sheets but it's the cheapest I've found so far, i'm going to keep looking and a wholesaler or junk yard might be better for them) : http://metaloffcuts.co.uk/shop/sheet-metal/perforated-sheet-metal-aluminium.html

LED lights for the panels: they have red and white lights in various lengths and numbers etc. I much prefer the shape of these sort of lights rather than the pearl drop ones that are more traditional christmas lights. We were thinking we could drill holes into the panels to stick these through.

boot fair stuff

These are the bits we got at the boot fair- we thought we would take apart the radio as there are lots of bits on it that could look nice on the super computer.

VERTICAL BLINDS

I've got a rough quote on vertical blinds: need to get the exact measurements for the window but made a rough estimate to get a quote. Cheapest I could find was £46 for 2.6m x 2m.
Good to know roughly how much they would cost if we wanted them- they would take 10 working days to get here though.
